DIY Short Shifter ! 2000/10/18
As a matter of fact, I wanted the short shift of Neuspeed. But, at that time, I didn't have the money. :D Stroke of front to back of Corrado's Shifter is too big!
I thought at that time. If I reduce the lever ratio..........

It was the copying of Neuspeed one that I thought of first.
It is possible if I resolve Shift lever and I am moved through the fulcrum. However, this Shift lever is the structure which I can't remove to the top.
I must remove exhaustpipe to remove this.......
Giving up!
Next, as for my having thought, I am to change cable end from the position of A to the position of B as the left photograph.
stroke becomes short by this because cable end and the fulcrum approached it.
Originally a weight like this picture is attached to cable end.(position of A)
(It is not in G60.)

Shift becomes easy to do by the weight.

The heavier weight is attached to Golf3 GTI's 02A Tranny.

The movement is little hard because there is no weight.

Because I removed weight , I changed to the heavy weight Shift knob.
(My Shift knob is 340gram)
Loosen the original M8 bolt, and remove the cable end.

Fill it up with a plastic small piece in Cable end because the gap is vacant.
(The part of Cable end shown white.)

To lose back rush.
Then, cut down the part which shows it by my finger.(By the file)
It connects cable end with shifter cable.

As for the reason, it hits black plastic cable end holder.(It is not in G60.)
This is the point of my special short shift.

I bought the stainless steel stick in the DIY store. and cut, drilled, shaved it.

Make the screw(M8 size) in one of the holes of the stick which made two holes.
The left of the picture.

The space of both holes is about 20mm.

The space from the fulcrum is 40mm by this stick.

The original is about 60mm from the fulcrum to cable end.

Move the cursor to the left picture.

Shift stroke is like this.
Sorry!! The upper drawing is the outline.

2001/11/13 Side to Side
Another day, I tried the reduced stroke in the side direction.

plastic cable end holder is attached to 02A tranny  after '92.

Remove the installation bolt of this holder.
Make spacer which fills up the clearance between bolt and the holder hole as the picture.
(The second parts from the left.)

Assemble M8×50mm bolt, nut, inside diameter is 8mm spacer(about length),etc... (The right end parts)
The nut in the middle is 12mm head.
Tighten it by deep socket wrench.
Do they sell socket of 12mm in USA?
Don't use the second part from the right.
Extract black spacer in the white plastic of Cable end.
(Because the diameter of bolt is big.)

Make the plastic spacer of The thickness is 0.5mm and the inside diameter is 8mm.
(I used the cap of Ball-point pen.)

Insert it to the hole of the white plastic.
After assembling!

Nut of the right end is to use self lock nut.

Shave the bottom side because spacer of aluminum hits it to cable.

Because I used junk parts, the part fee is free.
This modification spends the time on the adjustment. Do you grudge the time, and buy expensive short shift kit? or, Do you take time, and enjoy DIY? It is your own choice.

Sorry!! I am doing the excuse which the money was not just in.
