OEM MK4 Switchblade Keyless Entry Mod 2006/02/28 Related Vortex Forum
I got new aftermarket switchblade ( flip key ) keyless entry kit, because my old remote switch was very bulky in my pockets, and couldn't close window. New one can close both side window and sunroof(My C doesn't have a sunroof) However, This switch blade key is very cheeply quality. I couldn't be satisfactory to this quality. Then,,,,,

I got this aftermarket switchblade keyless entry kit for the Volkswagen's car from the online shop. About 42 dollars. However, in the next day, the price rose in price to 58 dollars. OH!!! I'm lucky!

This kit incrude the MK2 style two blank key, wiring herness, switchblade remote and receiver.

Cut out that blank key by the locksmith for free, Because I am familiar with him.
Insert to an ignition key cylinder.

The key body is a little bit long but doesn't hit a steering.

Regrettably, the body is twisted, when I turn the key. not solidness. :(
Install the receiver to the central lock controller.

Remove the sidewall carpet of the passenger's side of the trunk.

The plastic lock clip for sidewall carpet is in the place of the yellow arrow.
The controller wrapped in the urethane foam box and fixed at the body with the metallic plate and the one black plastics nut.
Unplug wiring harness from the central lock controller.
Use only four wires.

#1 Red = Power
#3 brown = ground
#7 Red/Yellow = Lock
#10 Red/Black = Unlock

Remove the acetate tape from wire.

Connect the wire T- taps to each wire.
Connect the wire of reciever.
Protect the wire by the corrugated tube.

Installed the receiver to under the fuel lid lock
actuator by cable ties.

This reciever have a 50cm antena wire. the keyless remote works from only 10m away. I extended 1m antenna wire to the reciever's original antenna wire.

As a result, the keyless remote works from 25m away.
Connect an answer back signal wire to the blinker wire at drivers side tail lamp cluster.
Connect Black/White and Black/Green wire.

After all, I could not be satisfied with the quality of that aftermarket switchblade key and I looked for an OEM switchblade remote key at VW dealer and junk yard, but I couldn't find the OEM key. Then, I found the OEM key at AUTO-KEY-STORE of the ebay USA.
I got it cheaply at the AKS. Thanks Tony!

*By the way, the brandnew OEM switchblade key's price is about 170 dollars at the VW dealer.
Replacing MK4 blank key to MK2 one.

Push key open button.

Stop key at 90 degrees.

Look above the push button(you will see a roll pin that has to be knocked out)

Remove roll pin by 1.5mm drill bit and hammer.
Shaved a key because the position of the pin slot is slightly different.

After cutting, shaving and testing the fitment several times, the key fits inside the side of remote body perfectly and check swings open and close without interference from the side walls.

After the right position can have cut a pin slot, hammer a roll pin back in.

Next!
Replacing MK4 remote PCB to an aftermarket PCB.

Tacking apart an OEM key body is quite strong.

Remove a tablet battely cover, and loosen two screws.

why? don't open the body? can't cover slide?

more screw?

............. perhaps there?

OMG! Last screw located under the VW BADGE!

This badge which is made of aluminum didn't remove easily.

After all, the badge is ragged.

I must procure a new VW badge somewhere.

However, the VWoJ doesn't sell it.... OH!

I found last screw here!

It is possible to do the swap of the PCB easily, because newer OEM key have a big PCB and the room.

By the way, I don't know why there is the red button. PANIC??
I shaved the aftermarket PCB and make more room for the aftermarket PCB's big register.

Shaved......... Testing the fit.

Shaved......... Testing the fit.

Shaved......... Testing the fit.

......... re-assembling :D

I worked in the addition because I forgot the relocate of operation indicator LED.

When pushing the button, the LED lights turn on.
The LED indicator is here.

I bought a 14mm VW badge from Pit house ROCO and installed.

I think that the black/silver VW logo is more COOL! than blue/white one.
The quality of the OEM Switchblade key is excellent.

Finally, I got the VWoJ original leather key case for protecting the switchblade key.

The remote control which I bought this time
can close a window and a sunroof.
